    Suggested tool for drilling holes?

I'd like to create a line of jewelry using sea glass, shells, small stones and such, that I've collected over the years.  I tried a small Dremel tool once, but it was sadly lacking!  I obviously need to learn more about the types of bits required, and find something with more power!  What do you more experienced folks use for such projects?

I'm a newbie here, but have been creating my own beaded jewelry for years, selling small collections through a gift shop in Maine. But that shop has closed and I think it's time to try marketing my own name.

    Thanks for any suggestions!

Try doing a search using the section over on the right side "Search Community"  There has been lots of information posted on this subject, as a mater of fact just a few day ago someone was asking about drilling Agate, with lots of information given  Ask  "drilling sea glass"  I believe you will find all the information you will need.  A Dremel is not a good drill for this job.

You probably found all this info with your search but, since I have a boilerplate note about drilling sea glass, I'll drop it in here.

Back in the old forum there was an excellent thread about drilling sea glass, drilling beach glass, drilling stones, drilling glass, and drilling rocks that will answer most ( if not all) of your questions. It's archived at http://cs.beadandbutton.com/beadingforumarchive/forums/p/24096/238794.aspx#238794

Some other advice is in  a newer thread at http://cs.artjewelrymag.com/artcs/forums/t/1843.aspx
Other resource are http://lapidaryjournal.com/stepbystep/mar04.cfm and http://www.rocks4u.com/drillrock.htm

Many people DO use a Dremel often mounted in a Dremel drill press. Many others use a flex shaft tool which does have more power than a Dremel. The "right" tools for the job are ultrasonic drills and lasers but they are not found in home based jeweler's benches. I've posted pictures of multi bit ultrasonic drills in use in Chinese gem bead drilling factories in previous Rings & Things newsletter articles at http://rtnews.rings-things.com/index.html
