Well, I don't have a pattern for you, but I can tell you that they are based on a math theory called parabolic lines.  Here are some websites to get you started and then you can probably figure out some patterns on your own.

This is generally referred to as "curve stitching" or "String art".  You can use these terms to help you search for dozens of websites on this technique.  As for the jewelry, the artist appears to have started with a coiled wire to anchor the thread.

    Good luck,

    Hi ,

Those earrings are really nice. I don't know where you can get instructions but I remember seeing wall  hangings made exactly the same way. Wrapping string on hammered in nails, crossing and weaving. Try putting string art into a search engine. Maybe that would help./Emmy

I bought some earings like these in France a few years ago and would also like to be able to copy them. They are made from little springs but where do you buy the little springs?

you wrap wire (22gauge) around a larger piece(  18 guage)of wire and shape it into a pear shape. then you would weave thread through the wraps.

Here is a site that may help to figure it out. Just use wire wrapped at meaured intervals instead of pins.

    Worth a look. /Emmy

You can go to the hardware store and buy several different size springs and cut them up to fit.  They are in the section for screen doors.  These also work well for mounting to the ends of a home made loom to keep the threads separated.

From the picture, it looks like you could take a piece of wire, slip the spring over it (make it long enough that so it the tension pushes up against the top then bend it and do the string art.

     Just a guess..............  :)

Like you, I have been dying to try and learn this technique since I saw my first pair in NY 2 years ago and, recently, last year in Miami.

I finally got the opportunity to try it.  The hardest part, for me, was the forming of the frame.  Because I used half-hard wire (non-tarnish craft wire as practice), the frame would bend more if you put too much pressure on it while handling.  Not a big deal, but could be frustrating.

I just finished my first pair as of today.  I will also play around with terminating the wrap of the thread and wire.  It is a very cool project.  Just be patient and have VERY good lighting.

ThreeFiveEightyFive and another Etsy seller, just in case someone would like to buy a pair of these neat-o earrings rather than have to make their own:

And this vendor states that theirs are Peruvian:

These string earrings are just beautiful, i have actually done patterns like this on a bigger scale circular  wooden ring back in 95, i guess its much easier to learn and sew on a bigger scale then these little earrings, but the colors and pattern is so nice, i think i will try these today, i just need to find empty earrings now or just bend a 5 gauge wire and make it myself  woohoo i love starting something new, :)))

    Hi,

I just found these wire frames at Fire Mountain Gems...these could work couldn't they? I did a search for steel drops and had it sort them "newest" (you can find this pull-down menu right above the results).

I also went to one of the sites posted in this thread and they talked about silk and metallic thread...I know NOTHING about threads...is the sil thread like the stuff they use with knotted pearl necklaces? And what kind of thread would the metallic thread be that is suitable for this project? Thanks!
