    Machine for the pasta roller.

Can someone direct me to one I can purchase, and any advice and helpful hints about using one?

What brand DO I want and DON'T want- who has the best price, etc.

Could a hand drill do the job?

Check out The Clay Store and Polymer Clay Express. Both are on-line stores.  They both carry pasta machines.  There is a new one by Makins for which you can buy a motor.  I've seen mixed reviews on this one.  Some people who own KitchenAid mixers use the pasta attachment.

Check out glassattic.com for tons of information regarding different pasta machines.  Just about anything you want to know about clay is on that web site.

If you don't find the information you are looking for,  come on over to the ArtJewelry section - we have a fairly active group of clayers over there and I think if you post this question there you will get a ton of answers fairly quickly.

The prariecraft dot com  store also sells pasta machines. They sell both 6" and 7" Atlas machines and electric motors. I don't know about their price i.e. how they compare to others. They also sell a foot pedal like the sewing machine ones to control the speed.

I got my pasta machine free via the Freecycle website for my town. So many folk have old pasta machines they received as gifts and are now sitting unused in cupboards. If you don't know about these sites, basically folks offer things for free that they don't want and then members can email you asking if they can collect them from you, or have you drop them off. The website to find your nearest group will be found at www.freecycle.org

I recommend getting the modified Atlas machine from http://www.monakissel.com. Makes cleaning the machine a breeze and SO worth the price.

Atlas is the brand I bought for making pasta, and I drove into the North End of Boston to buy it 25 or 30 years ago. Julia Child may have recommended it. LOL, little did she know the other uses for a pasta machine, although mine is still dedicated to making pasta. It's a really well built machine (mine's a hand crank).  Rhonda
