Wendy, this "Magen David" (star of David) is really beautiful.  Looks like Capri Blue Swarovskis.  How do you see it becoming a kippah?  Do you plan to do some beading or wire work around it to turn it into a kippah?  I've never seen one without it being formed into a circle.  Was this to be used with hair combs?  Thank you, Elise

The crystals are capri blue, and it will be attached to a comb I am told, I was not told that they are usually round or in a round frame so that is something new to me (I should have done some home work before starting the design) I was not given a sample but just the idea that the star of David would be the centre and to use crystals. So If this needs to be surrounded by a circle, I will probably make a light wire frame  with crystals on  it to connect to the points of the star.  The centre cross bar with is 20 G wire so that is where the comb will be attached (so I am told).  If you have any other information about the wearing or use and usual customs for the kippah I am all ears (eyes).  Thanks

    Hi, again...

I've given you some links to see some of the other beaded kippot with some background and information.  The traditional kippah would be a black piece of fabric or leather and is traditionally worn by men.  Only in recent years have women adopted wearing them.  Picture a beanie!

Actually, Catholic clergy wear them, too.  In Judaism, it's a respectful thing to cover your head -- so that there is something between you and God. (Men)  Orthodox women would not wear a kippah, typically, but would cover their heads with all manners of hats and wigs, too.

My daughter is not Orthodox, but she is religious and she's 26 and it's cool to have a pretty piece of jewelry on your head!

In thinking about it, I see no reason why it couldn't be a Star of David, and not round.  I'm going to ask Nina, my daughter, what she knows, too!

Your piece is gorgeous.  I happen to love Capri Blue with gold!

     Elise
