Hi,

     Was thinking of trying my hand at bead crochet.  I have been crocheting for years and wondered where to get started with the beads.  Where do you find the winding cards to store your project on?  I see them on some patterns and instructions on line.  I have also been stitch beading for about a year.  I just love it.  Any pointers from you long time beaders?

Welcome to the forum!  I wind my bead crochet bead projects onto embroidery floss cards.  Be patient when first learning the bead crochet technique.  The first few rows are the worst but once you get the handg of it you will be hooked-Good Luck!

I really wanted to learn how to bead crochet and I thought that I would have no trouble at all since I knew how to crochet anyway.  I was wrong.  I bought about every book I could find and it did not help.  Then I bought a DVD by Ann Benson.  It was wonderful.  I could see just how she did every stitch and I could slow it down or reverse it when ever I wanted to.  Ann is a wonderful teacher and I recomend her DVD and book.  Now I love to bead crochet. It is so portable that I can take it with me where ever I go and work on it while I an waiting in an office or for a flight.

I make bobbins out of plastic lids or cardboard.  I also found that a bead spinner really makes short work out of stringing beads if you are using one color or if you are using bead soup.

Don't forget, the first three rows are your cursing rows

I love to bead crochet but haven't quite gotten the knack of the finishing end of things.  Is there some tutorial that could show me exactly where the thread is going when finishing a seamless bracelet?  Mine just don't seem to come out "neatly" or is this something that you just have to keep practicing until it comes out right.  Gets me nervous because you spend a certain amount of time doing each piece of the bracelet from stringing to crocheting only to have it ruined when you get to the finishing end of things.  Does anyone have any tips or suggestions for finishing?

It is awkward - at best.  If you go here: http://www.beadseast.com/primers.html and look on the left hand side, there is a title Tube Invisible Join. Click on that it it is a great help.  She also has a DVD on the join and other types of joins like with a large bead and bead caps I think.  I have wanted to buy this but always seem to spend my money on beads instead!  Good luck with it.  I call it DIJ (dreaded invisible join).  I have one coming up I have to complete and when I get near the end of the tube, I can feel my anxiety building as I can never seem to get it right.  She uses the slip stitch method not the other I think is called single crochet.  I use slip stitch method.

Thanks for the suggestion Jane.  Actually while I was waiting for suggestions I went to the Beads East sight as I have Ann Benson's book and pattern book for bead crocheting and I did order her finishing DVD.  I will get this down yet!!  I was considering attending the bead crochet workshop she was having in July which would have addressed my problem but I am doing a show that weekend so the DVD is the next best thing.  I will let you know how it works out.  I am not sure whether I do the slip stitch method or the single crochet but I tend to think that I do the single crochet.  Maybe I will see what the difference is and try it her way!!
