I wish to buy pmc and would like to know what is the going price as it seems to vary from store to store.

well, that's just it - it varies place to place.

Fire mountain is about $65 or so for 50 g... but i ended up finding some on ebay for $52.

Look at Fire mountian online, then look at other stores online and see who has the best price. If you find it on sale lower than Fire Mountain, hop on it.

 I buy mine from the pmc ste and it costs me £11 for 50g, now I don't know how much that is in dollars but it's usually a couple of pounds to a dollar, so I guess I'm getting it cheaper than you,
