nienja, I'm sorry you haven't gotten an answer to your question yet.  I'd suggest asking your question in the ArtJewelry forum. Use the link at the bottom of the window to get to the forum, and when asked for user name/password, just use what you're using here.

If you get an answer to your question, I hope you'll come back and post it here. Rhonda

Try putting your clay in a small plastic bag and putting in pants pockets while you do ther things. Sometimes I stick mine in my bra too. It is  a matter of it being warm enough to work with. Hope this helps....

If you have a food processor or old-fashioned meat grinder, run your hardened clay through it to soften and condition.  You may need to add a few drops of mineral (baby oil will work) oil to help soften it.

You can use a heating pad also--place the clay in the package on the pad and let it sit for awhile to warm and soften it.

Another product you can try to soften up your Fimo is Fimo Mix-Quick. Just add a little at a time until you get it the consistency you like. You can do that by hand, use a food processor or a pasta machine. You can also use a hot water bottle to warm your clay if you don't have a heating pad.

Fimo Classic is known for it's ability to firm up very quickly after it has been conditioned.  While some clays are O.K. to condition one day and use the next, Fimo Classic is best used right when it's been conditioned.  MixQuick will help - you can use about 1 part MixQuick to 3 parts Fimo Classic.  It will not change the color of your clay.

Sealing in anything won't make a difference because it's not drying out.  Polymer clay does not dry out.  When it gets softer or harder it's a function of heat, friction, and distribution of the materials that are used to make the clay.  While using just heat (pocket, heating pad) will help, it's the friction of beating or rolling that really gets it soft enough throughout to work with.

I have used a heat pad and it works great, if i recall even my jewelry teacher told us a heat pad is a great solution, a regular heating pad you can even find them for really cheap in big logs :)
