    Mica powders/pigment powders?

    Hi,

I'm just wondering if mica powders and pigment powders are the same thing...just called different names by different people or what? If they aren't the same thing...will they both do the same thing? There was a segment on Carol Duvall show once and the lady on there said something about making it look almost holographic when you apply this technique. Here's my dilemma...I have done a search on Google and eBay and when I look for mica powders, they're always talking about makeup the most...along with car paint and some other industrial application. I want to be able to buy the mica powders if I can, so I guess I also need to know where to get them...I know where to get pigment powders, but I'm having trouble with the mica powders. Thanks for any help clearing this up and finding a place to buy them!!

Mica powder makes product sparkle, pigment powder gives color.

See Mica Powder on Polymer Clay Web and pigment powder .

It's easy to track down things like this if you google the words like "mica powder ."

Thanks. I'm not very good at searching, so I come here when I can't find something. All I could find on google was something about car paints and such...not really anything that helped me figure out the differences in the two. Thanks again.

www.icrmica.com/icrmica_micapowder_flakes.html  This site will give you an idea of what mica is for and how it is obtained.  Like Russ suggested, go to Google and type in "mica" and you will get more scientific detailed information. This site can help explain both mica and piogments.  http://flourishesnewsletter.blogspot.com/2008/08/polished-pigment-powders.html

    Good luck to you.

Hi- try searching for the brand name Pearl-Ex- you will find many sources.  They are also available at Michael's and AC Moore in the rubberstamping aisle.  Also, Ranger Ink has their own brand of mica powders, called Perfect Pearls.  Also, they are available at Pearl Paints.  They are very fun to use with a clear medium for painting and are also great with polymer clay.  They are addictive!

                              Good luck- Adrienne in PA

hi there! I mostly post at Art Jewelry but popped in here to see what was going on and just had to answer your question. I'm a major user of mica powders. They are different from pigment powders. The best thing to do is use the 40% off coupon and buy the PearlEx assortment packs at Michaels. There are at least two, perhaps three different series, I can't remember. The colors are gorgeous! I also own Perfect Pearls and dislike them.
