A stone with a hole in it, worn around the neck on a bit of dried and twisted vine, may have been the talisman awarded to the one who killed the most game. Luck and superstition were likely the earliest motivations behind wearing these items, not a desire for adornment.&lt;/p&gt;

I also love Native American silversmiths and their use of the color. It also has been used in jewelry for centuries and has an incredible history as a gemstone.
