In memory of Toika Bridges

We are saddened to hear that Toika Bridges has passed away. Lauriejo Raymond sent us this beautiful tribute to Toika:

Our fellow beader, pattern designer and writer, Toika Bridges went to be with the Lord on Wed. April 15, 2009. Toika was recognized nationally for her Delica bead patterns and her Internet business selling pens and other items for beaders to use in creating specialty items. Her love for the arts was unsurpassed and she was a real jack of all trades. Toika had a thirst for learning, and especially helping others to know "how to" do specific arts and crafts projects. Her love for writing is obvious as she submitted many "how to" articles over the years. Toika's most recent article, "How to color Fireline," was published in the April 2009 issue of Bead&Button. Toika will best be remembered for her kind heart, her love of working with Delica beads, and her custom-designed small beaded vessels. Her love of Chinese architecture and design was present in many of her creations. Let us remember her passion for the arts, and for her willingness to share her vast knowledge with others crafters. She will be dearly missed in the arts community. May her legacy survive through her wonderful bead patterns.

I was so sad when I received the news about Toika. We were email friends for the past six years. Toika was encouraging when I first started to bead and had so many questions. She was very kind, and always helpful and generous with her time. She will remain in my thoughts and heart forever. We have lost - the world has lost - a very special person.

I was greatly saddened to hear about Toika. We had been email friends since 2003, when she was so helpful as I first started to bead and set up my online shop, "Moonbeams, Lilacs & Roses." Even during her last days, I received helpful hints from Toika - typical of what a kind and helpful person she was. The world has truly lost a caring, generous and kind woman who had a beautiful soul. She will remain in my thoughts forever. Thank you, Toika - for everything. Rest in peace...

I am so sorry her family had to lose such a beautiful and talented young woman so early.  I loved her last article in Bead&Button, and have been using her technique. She will live on in the inspiration that she gave to us all.

Oh I am so sorry about it. I don't know what do I say. So saddened.

I am so sorry to have just heard about my friend Toika who was one of my mentors and supplied me with countless pens, cardholders and patterns.  She was such a kind soul that when she ran out of certain items I needed here in the Middle East, she would go through the trouble of finding me suppliers from anywhere else in the world.

I hope someone from her family will take all her beautiful patterns and put them into a book - I will be the first one to purchase it.  She had too much talent to let it just go without more new beaders learning from her.

May she rest in peace and may she be always remembered all over the world.  I know I will never forget her.
