Jill Devon’s fun and summery berry bracelet appeared in our June 2008 issue. With multiple herringbone ropes, bead-stitched cones, and three types of berries, this bracelet is full of variety, and might be challenging for beginners.
A reader recently wrote to say that she thought one step for making the berries might be confusing to others.

When you first start the berries, you stitch together twelve beads, using a modified peyote stitch. Then, you join the beads into a ring, and continue stitching out of the large beads in a modified herringbone stitch. We refer to stitching “up” and “down” through the beads, as in herringbone, but our initial photo and illustration are oriented as for peyote. Simply turn that initial strip of twelve beads so that the 80 seed beads are on top, and you should have no problem following the ups and downs in the instructions.
The reader also pointed out an error in the instructions for step 2 of “Ropes,” on p. 62: Where the instructions say “Repeat three times,” readers should only repeat once, for four beads total in the round.
We pride ourselves on testing every project and providing top-notch step-by-step photos, illustrations, and instructions, but if you ever find yourself looking for help or confused, we, and the community of beaders on the forum, are here to help!
