Eco-friendly jewelry class

Whether you’re a designer or a vendor, you’ve probably sensed the “green movement” in the jewelry industry. Customers may be asking you about how your gemstones and metals are mined, and about the ethical and ecological implications of those mining practices.

If you’re ready to commit to green jewelry making but don’t know how, the Revere Academy of Jewelry Arts in San Francisco, Calif., has a class for you. “Green Jewelry,” a five-hour class held on August 23, 2008, will address the mining of gemstones and metals and how you can help promote ethical mining practices. The class will also cover eco-friendly suppliers and studio practices, gold testing and ingot making, and green business certification. The class will be taught by Revere Academy’s Christine Dhein and Jennifer Horning, co-founder of Ethical Metalsmiths. Half of the class fee will benefit Ethical Metalsmiths.
