Looking for something to do over the Memorial Day weekend? You might want to plan a trip to the Ohio Glass Museum in Lancaster, Ohio (U.S.). This Saturday, May 24, is the last day of the museum’s latest exhibit, entitled “Out of the Box: Pushing the Boundaries of the Glass Bead.”
For this exhibit, members of the International Society of Glass Beadmakers (ISGB) were asked to create beaded objects that could fit into a six-inch square box. Though the objects had to be composed of at least 50 percent glass beads, they could not be jewelry. In other words, the ISGB members had to think outside the box in order to have their work displayed in one. Noted glass artist Sara Sally LaGrand created two objects for this exhibit, entitled “Enigma: Emily on the Train to Rome” and “Babbo.”
If you can’t make it to Ohio this weekend, the exhibit will also be at the Bead&Button Show, June 1–8. From there, it travels to the ISGB annual conference, The Gathering, which will be held in Oakland, Calif., August 7–10.
