Minneapolis "Beads of Whimsy" exhibit

You might want to check out “Beads of Whimsy” at the Minneapolis Textile Center’s Joan Mondale Gallery from March 7 to April 12, sponsored by the Upper Midwest Bead Society and the Textile Center. Thirty works from the U.S., Canada, and the UK have been selected for the exhibition by juror Stephanie Eddy. Minnesota judges will choose first, second, and third place in each of four categories.

The Upper Midwest Bead Society has also initiated a Bridge Quilt Project. Individual beaders are completing 3-inch beadwork squares to commemorate victims of the collapse of the 35W Bridge in Minneapolis in August 2007. Volunteers will sew the squares together to make a larger panel, and the UMBS will decide where the quilt will be displayed.

The Upper Midwest Bead Society has posted the Beads of Whimsy photos on their website. I was lucky to see all of these works of art in person at the opening reception. If you will be in Minneapolis from now through April 12, I highly recommend visiting the gallery. It's even free.
