The Bead&Button VintageStyle Jewelry special issue has been on the newsstand for a few days. If you love the look of vintage jewelry and want projects to help you create Victorian, Art Nouveau, Art Deco, Edwardian, Arts & Crafts Movement, or Retro style jewelry, pick up a copy this weekend. All of the projects are new and original.
One of my necklaces recreates the look of an Edwardian choker. After I found the double tube beads I used for this necklace, I laid out the design on my work surface. It looked great! But the real challenge came when I had to figure out how I was going to stitch it together. The double tubes are not interconnected. This meant the thread had to follow the curve of the tube. Adding bicone crystals between the tubes allowed me to stitch a circular thread path, but then how was I going to move between the rows?
The tubes sat on my desk for many days before my brain came up with a solution one night while I was sleeping. Look at the story to see how I solved this problem. Would you have come up with a different solution to this design challenge? I hope you enjoy making this Edwardian choker. You’ll feel like a queen when you wear it!
Happy beading,
Lynne
