What's new on the beading horizon?

Watching for the latest beading trends is a favorite activity among the editors of Bead&Button. We follow what’s new in the craft, fashion, home-decorating, and color industries. One source we regularly review is the National Craft Association’s Web site. This association keeps tabs on many of the same directions and trends we’re interested in.

In their latest “Emerging Craft Trends” report, the National Craft Association noted these trends:

“Beading embellishments are in, from jewelry, to home décor, to fashion and accessories.”

“A more sophisticated look is emerging — the style is urban, artsy, unique to the creator. And the new direction doesn’t follow a pattern, which allows for a lot of creativity.”

“Consumers looking to express their individuality are driving the personalization and customization trend. A hot trend artisans can take advantage of.”

“Products are all about self-indulgence, self-esteem, spirituality, communication, positive energy, beauty, and everything women hold dear. The looks range from frilly and romantic to modern, playing up to the empowered woman.”

WOW! These observations are certainly reflected in the projects we see at Bead&Button — high levels of creativity and craftsmanship, a variety of beading styles, and an ever-changing use of materials. We encourage our readers to express their own creativity by featuring projects that will inspire them to expand their beading and designing skills.

Have you noted any beading trends in your part of the world? Keep us up-to-date by sending an e-mail with your own beading report. This is just the type of information we need to put together the best magazine for our readers.

Happy beading.

Lynne
