How to show us your work

In order to post images, you first need to have a place that will host your pictures. You may want to check with your ISP (Internet Service Providers - example: AOL, MSN, Earthlink, etc.). Most ISPs provide their customers with 5-10MB of space for the purpose of hosting personal web pages and pictures.

Once you have a host for your pictures, you will need the URL or the location/address of the image.

A URL looks something like this:
    http://www.beadandbutton.com/bnb/images/bnbcover.JPG

To display the picture inside your post, copy the url (location of the image/photo) and place it within the tags (without the spaces) around it.

If you're posting a new topic or replying to a topic (not via the Quick Reply at the bottom of the page) you should see a whole row of icons. One of the icons you'll see looks like this: . Clicking on that icon will write out the forum code needed for adding images to your message. You can also type in the image tags. It doesn't matter which way their entered.

    Example:
For a cover of Bead&Button, the image url (the location or address of the image is http://www.beadandbutton.com/bnb/images/bnbcover.JPG ).

To display this in the message, it would look like this:

NOTE: In the above examples - I've added a space between the "img" and the "]" (right bracket) to prevent this from being converted to an image.

Once I remove the spaces, this is what will happen:

I hope that helps. If there are any questions about something I wrote, let me know so I can work on clarifying the instructions.

You need to have a place to store your pictures on the internet first. I have mine stored in angelfire where my web site is. Once you have that, you will need the address of the picture itself. Insert that address into your message.

There must be no spaces in the address and tags for this to work.

    Hope this helps you out

A good place to upload pictures from your computer, so you can show them on a website, is http://www.imgspot.com. The directions are very easy to follow and it's free. Choose the link that starts with [img] to post on a forum such as this one and you're good to go.

If you would like to see my website it is: http://www.beaded-baubles.com

Some more good image hosting sites:

    http://www.villagephotos.com/signup.asp
    http://photobucket.com/register.php

To find more if needed, just do a web search for "image hosting"

Remember, you need to have the image stored in your computer first. Then submit it to the site. Then copy the code and paste on the forum.

Yahoo Photos is a great place to store your pix for public viewing, but posting a link to Yahoo will NOT put your image on the forum. You can post the link for people to go to Yahoo and look at your pix, though, as long as the albums are set to "public viewing."

RE: How to show us your work

ONCE AGAIN, PLEASE DO NOT POST YOUR WEBSITE LINKS OR YOUR PHOTOS HERE! THEY WILL NOT BE NOTICED! THIS THREAD IS FOR INSTRUCTIONS ONLY!
You need to post your image on an Image Hosting Site. I am currently using Photobucket, and it seems to work very well Follow their directions to submit a photo. Then copy the [img] code, then paste it onto your post on the forum. Then hit "preview" to see if it shows up.
You can also try Village Photos or Image Spot, although the last one is frequently overloaded.

If you would like, you can post a bunch of photos in Yahoo Photos and post the link on the forum so people can go there annd see all of your photos at once. (The "link" is the code that appears in your web browser's address box at the top of your screen =- just highlight it, right-click, "copy" then right click in your post, and "paste")

Aloha! After three tries with different photo album services, I found out that some photo sites are deliberately not allowing posting to other sites. These are usually the "free" sites, because they don't have the capacity to manage the traffic from sites like eBay. It ended up my son showed me how to post a photo in our own store website forum page, right click on the image to open the Properties window, copy the link to paste into your note here as instructed. ~alohabc [8D]

Aloha! Getting back on topic.....I just posted my color challenge photos on www.flickr.com (a new Yahoo site.) I don't know if there is a preference from forum admins, but I decided to try this over the hmtl after I saw others post their pix this way. It was utterly mindless (just MY speed) to set up*, and freeeeeeeee (just my price!) They give you your own permanent URL which you can copy and paste onto your forum note for us to click on.

*Since I only set it up to post photos for this forum, I did not have to think about some of the details they offer...you will probably want to read their site more thoroughly than I did this first time around.

    Can't get image between img

When I try to put the image address between the img's the address goes to another line and won't show the pic in the forum. Is the address too long? Should the HTML be ON instead of OFF and if so how do you turn the HTML on?

    It should look like this:

    [IMG ]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v338/wadham97/5pins.jpg[/ IMG]

I added spaces inside the image tags so it won't appear as a pic, so you can see the address. You have to make sure you are posting an address to a site that allows picture linking. Yahoo doesn't. Look for a site that does image posting. Good luck!

RE: How to show us your work

Or you could just tell people to click QUOTE on a post that has an image in it, then replace the link with the image they want to post. Jackie, I've been a mod on several sites and come to the realization that a lot of people don't actually read some posts. It might be a good idea to post the instructions and then close the thread. What I found works most of the time is to post a very detailed example. For instance, you could post the following for those having difficulties in posting images:

[ img ]Insert Your Image URL Here[ /img ]
Just remove the spaces in the tags.
    [ img ]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v247/Karma8/ShariStar.png[ /img ] becomes

    I hope this helps! [:)]

EDIT: Also, you might want to point out that members can not see what is on somene else's hard drive, it'll just show up as the Red X of Your Image is Doomed. [:0] A few years ago, I actually had to have someone explain it to me this way: "Think of it like this: Your computer can't see this image on my hard drive because it doesn't exist on your hard drive, same as that image on your hard drive doesn't exist on mine, so we have to upload them to a host to make them available for others to see. See?"

And GRRR @ dialup losing it's connection
