how many hits a day is okay? website question

hello!

i sell my work almost exclusively online. i recently got a stat counter, and found out that i get, on the average, around 110 unique visitors a day. That's pretty lame, isn't it? Considering that there are billions of people around the world... Or is that an acceptable number?

On one occasion, i did get over 400 unique visitors in one day, and over 800 page views. But that was a one time deal.

How many hits do you get in a day? And how did you get there (marketing strategies, etc)?

Think of it this way...the people that come today are probably different than the people that come tomorrow and the next day so you're probably getting more unique hits a week than you think. Using google ad words or yahoo's pay per click advertising can help. I get 300-400 unique visitors a day. Bead806 makes a good point. You will always have lookers and buyers. People will go to you site for different reasons. My site is for crafters and the average sally. Linking to other people's sites and putting your site in your signature line in the forums may help. Just don't annoy people like I do.

Do you ONLY do pay per click - or are you also optimizing your site for specific keywords? If you are doing pay per click - the beader806 is right - how many sales are you getting per your visitors? If you are doing seo (search engine optimiztion) on your site for specific keywords - then you need to compare how many clicks you are getting versus how many times per day or month that keyword is searched.
