    Pretty lucky friday the 13th

Omg gang! I cant believe this! Im here working (well okay, posting in the forum)
and this woman who just opened a clothing store in town came in and says "okay, show me your jewelry". (I know her, so that wasnt rude or anything like that) Of course I wear it everyday right? Not today! So she asks me if Im interested in selling in her store. Im not a fan of consignment because I dont want to hike my prices up so I wasnt exactly jumping outta my chair but I asked anyway and she said no, she will buy my stuff from me and then sell it in her store for a higher price. I think Im more excited about her coming to me than actually selling my stuff! weird huh? The worst part is I dont have much made right now and Im totally out of clay. I didnt plan on buying until after my vermont trip in august. Ive never sold outright to a store before, is there anything I should be aware of?

You might want to check out this page for various things to be aware of... for this kind of setup, but also in case this turns out to create other types of business where you want to think about the precendent you're setting, etc.:

Thank you Linelle! For some reason Im not as thrilled as I think I should be. Performance anxiety maybe? She didnt say how many pieces she wanted and her hours are the same as mine here so there might be a problem connecting. I best get my new business cards printed! I wonder how much Ill get charged for pasta machine symbol glamazon formerly known as little clay dude...

Sorta like, will anyone ever ask me out? Then someone does, and all those doubts and performance anxiety set in.

Whether or not this develops into something rewarding and lucrative for you, the main thing is, someone likes your work enough to offer to pay you for it and put it in her shop. That says a whole bunch, PMS/G/LCD. That acronym probably ain't gonna work.

Yeah - you got the invitation to the party! You feel so good because you've been VALIDATED! How cool!

Put stuff in writing - there's a lot of info here in the Marketing section - and one thing that not many people put in writing is a provision to renegotiate what's in writing!

You're going to need a business name a logo, but I'm not sure a pasta machine means anything to anyone other than us. People might think you are a noodle maker! Look at all your work so far as a collection and see if that tells you anything about "who you should be" at least for the business part. But to us you'll always be LCD.

Aww, man, LCD...I'm really excited for ya, my friendly!!! Truly, I am...I dunno, if she's going to buy it from ya, just set your price according to what you'd REALLY want to get out of it, Rene...Definitely, don't underprice yourself, since, she's buying it OUTRIGHT, right? And, she's gunna bump it up in her shop--probably 2 or 3 times? (not sure) In any event, you're going to get your money upfront, so make it good the first time!!!

Know what, though, LCD??? I haven't had the opportunity to see any of your work at all...I just realized that. I did an advanced search and couldn't find anything??? [swg]

Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could; some blunders and absurdities have crept in; forget them as soon as you can.

Tomorrow is a new day; you shall begin it serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense.
