my Helpful tips on online advertising

    Hello,

This is just a few helpful tip on advertising and marketing online.

There are lots of methods for advertising your site online.

    - Paid click campaigns like Adwords, Yahoo Clicks, or eBay's new Ampwords to name a few of the most popular.

    - To advertise your online site you will need to build your pagerank.

One way to build pagerank is by link swapping. Put a link to there site on your links page and ask that they do the same with a (reciprical link)

only swap links with reputtal sites and ensure that they are actually related to your product otherwise Google will not rate them high and they could hurt your standings.

    - Make sure your site is properly seen or indexed by Google by submitting it to the search engines.

I use a program called Submit Ease

    - Another useful tool might be to submit your site to online directories.

I use a program called Submit Helper

If you would like more helpful information or would like to participate with my site: SilverRoseBeads.com in a link swap please email me at dan@silverrose.net

and I would love to discuss SEO strategies and help out.

If we all work together we can make the online world a better place.

    Automation saves time and money

Using programs to automate your submissions to sites helps ease your listing.

Submit Helper has a free version that will list to over 450 directories.

The number 1 directory you should list to is DMOZ. There is usually a 1 year wait to be listed, and do not list multiple times or you can become disqualified if you are impatient.

They have an 8 pagerank which will very greatly help your site.

Remember Ladies, it isn't the number of inbound links that helps your site, but the quality of the links.

Be cautious when deciding where to list your products.

    Some reputable sites are:

    Shopzilla.com, Shopping.com, YahooShopping.com, Kelkoo.com, Nextag.com

You can create a file which will bulk upload your jewelry to each called a channel feed.

Anyone who has a quality site and would like to participate in a link swap with:

tsk tsk not how I meant at all

I was just responding to a few female beaders who had replied to my comments and I still had them in mind when I created this thread.

Condescension was never my intention of intonation. I was just trying to dispense some of the few techniques that I have gleaned from cyberspace.

a bit more on inbound links

A bit more on the misconception of inbound links (links to your site)

Your sites placement in the SERPS (Search Engine Results Page) is determined by your pagerank and your relevancy to the keyword.

Your sites pagerank is determined by an equation calculating your backlinks.

To explain the algorithm a little bit:

To move your page to a higher rank, links from a higher ranked site or thousands of links from a lower ranked site are required.

The more inbound links the better, but outbound links (links from your page) will filter away your pagerank if they are to unrelated sites or sites that use sneaky "black hat" techniques to trick the search engines.

    Simplified Pagerank Chart

In conclusion, check the sites that you link to and list your site in the DMOZ store directory. It has a pagerank of 8 and supplies many other searches with store listings.

RE: my Helpful tips on online advertising

Search engine optimization is important, but please do not confuse it with advertising.

Advertising, marketing, and a listing in a search engine/directory are three very different things. Just having your website indexed in a directory or search engine is not advertising. Would putting a book on shelf in a library or store be considered advertising? I do not think so.

Advertising: to announce or praise (a product, service, etc.) in some public medium of communication in order to induce people to buy or use it: Paying for a television spot telling people why and where they can buy or find your book (on the shelf in the library or store)

Many people believe that marketing is just about advertising or sales. However, marketing is everything a company does to acquire customers and maintain a relationship with them. Even the small tasks like writing thank-you letters, playing golf with a prospective client, returning calls promptly and meeting with a past client for coffee can be thought of as marketing. The ultimate goal of marketing is to match a company's products and services to the people who need and want them, thereby ensure profitability. (Investopedia Commentary)

    What is PageRank:
PageRank is only one of the elements Google uses to determine a page’s relevance or importance. PageRank is also only part of the story about what results get displayed high up in a Google listing.

For example there’s some evidence to suggest that Google is paying a lot of attention these days to the text in a link’s anchor when deciding the relevance of a target page – perhaps more so than the page’s PR…

Someone once told me like this, “PageRank is to the SERP(search engine results page) like salt is to food.”

    A little about pageRank:

    A little more info:
    http://www.davetalks.com/articles/introducing-page-rank.htm

    The whole story:
    http://www.webworkshop.net/pagerank.html

Anyway, for what it is worth. This is from Google:

    Quality guidelines - basic principles

    1. Make pages for users, not for search engines. Don't deceive your users or present different content to search engines than you display to users, which is commonly referred to as "cloaking."

    2. Avoid tricks intended to improve search engine rankings. A good rule of thumb is whether you'd feel comfortable explaining what you've done to a website that competes with you. Another useful test is to ask, "Does this help my users? Would I do this if search engines didn't exist?"

    3. Don't participate in link schemes designed to increase your site's ranking or PageRank. In particular, avoid links to web spammers or "bad neighborhoods" on the web, as your own ranking may be affected adversely by those links.

    4. Don't use unauthorized computer programs to submit pages, check rankings, etc. Such programs consume computing resources and violate our Terms of Service. Google does not recommend the use of products such as WebPosition Gold™ that send automatic or programmatic queries to Google.

    Design and content guidelines

1 Make a site with a clear hierarchy and text links. Every page should be reachable from at least one static text link.

2 Offer a site map to your users with links that point to the important parts of your site. If the site map is larger than 100 or so links, you may want to break the site map into separate pages.

3 Create a useful, information-rich site, and write pages that clearly and accurately describe your content.

4 Think about the words users would type to find your pages, and make sure that your site actually includes those words within it.

5 Try to use text instead of images to display important names, content, or links. The Google crawler doesn't recognize text contained in images.

6 Make sure that your TITLE and ALT tags are descriptive and accurate.

7 Check for broken links and correct HTML.

8 If you decide to use dynamic pages (i.e., the URL contains a "?" character), be aware that not every search engine spider crawls dynamic pages as well as static pages. It helps to keep the parameters short and the number of them few.

9 Keep the links on a given page to a reasonable number (fewer than 100).

With this in mind, I would be very careful (and I am) what software I use to submit and analyze my websites and who I exchange links with.

Personally, I stay away from any link swapping schemes. If there is true valuable content or information that my visitors would be interested in, I will link to another site. I will not link to a similar site just to get a higher page rank.

Don’t get me wrong, search engine optimization is important, but please do not confuse it with advertising. PR is only part of the equation that decides a websites position in SERP’s (search engine results page). A website's position in the SERP’s is only part of a marketing plan.

Silver Rose, you advise us to obtain a better PR using software to submit our website to as many directories as possible and to participate in link swapping, this might not be "black hat "but it might be considered "grey hat" to some.

As they say, “A little information can be a dangerous thing.”

I feel much better sticking with the golden Google rule: “Content is king!”

    And it is much easier!
