    questions about necklace color?

How can I prevent my silver necklace from fadding? If it has faded, how to recover the color?

Faded? Do you mean tarnished, ie, it's lost it's brightness? If that's the case then any jeweller's store will sell you a special polishing cloth to restore it.

    Hi Discussall -

I use a silver polishing cloth to bring my silver back to its' brilliant shine. We carry a long list of different cloths, here's the link.

It only takes a couple of minutes to see the results, I hope this helps you out!

First....what type of silver is it?

Plated does/will eventually lose it's brightness (do to tarnish and/or the plating chipping off) and there's not much you can do, short of taking the piece apart and maybe spray painting it silver again?

Sterling and other "real" silver pieces can be polished, just like good silverware. Many sites, as well as higher end jewelry stores offer polishing clothes.

Depending on the thickness of the silver - as long as it's real and not plated (such as a 2mm or 3mm thick pendant on the chain) can be polished with nothing more than fine steel wool or a wire brush used for this purpose only (don't use the brush on anything else). The wool or brush will bring out more details of the piece if it has an intricate pattern stamped on it. You could use the wool or brush on the chain itself, but it'll take a while to make sure you hit every spot.

    RE: questions about necklace color?

    Hi,

For almost all sterling silver jewelry, if they don't tarnish so bad (like.. dark/beyond recovery - you may have to consider using liquid silver cleaner in that case) you can use silver polishing cloth as Sarah (above) mentioned or travel jewelry care wipes like ours: http://www.beadbyus.com/jecawi.html

Just gently polish your sterling silver jewelry, beads, findings with this wipes, your jewelry will be back clean, shiny & sparkling again.

    Hope this helps.

I have found that if I keep my jewelry in a ziplock style bag that it will not turn or tarnish. There are silver anti-tarnish strips from Fire Mountian Gems that you can put in your jewelry case that will help to keep your item from turning. they are very affordable. I use them when I store my jewelry between shows and home parties. I hope this helps. Happy Beading! http://www.mpdesignsjewelry.com/
