    Carousel Earrings and Intro.

Though not new to BeadStyle and Bead & Button Magazine websites, I am new to the forum. Thought I'd introduce myself and show one of my newer pieces.

My name's Tina, and though I've been beading on and off for years (through my costuming), I didn't start designing/making jewelry until about a year ago. Now I'm absolutely hooked. :)

Here's my latest earring in two colour variations. I call it The Carousel. It uses Delicas AND Swarovski. What more could you want? LOL

    Hope you enjoy!

Very cute. They do look like carousels or those drums with the crossed wraps. I like the green/aqua set.

    Hi Tina.

Love these earrings, and the ones on your site are stunning.

I took a peek, hope you don't mind.
I love the way you make your rings, what an impact, and yet they are just beaded rings. very nice with the components you used.

Question 1. Do you mind if I try your design for myself but I think I will make them with wire.

question 2. The costumes, did you make those yourself aswell.
    They are great.

Wow! What a lot of responses! LOL
I'll try to answer everyone's questions without getting too /long-winded:

    bobobi11,

Thanks! I hadn't thought of the drums with crossed wraps. My husband did say he thought they looked more like Chinese latterns, though! I think I'll have to make a red/yellow set just to humor him!

    Gwen (gwenbeads),
    Thank you.

    MEW (middle_earth_wire),
Thanks for taking a look at the website and liking my other pieces. I like your business name as well. I read about how you came up with it in the "How did you name your business" thread. Thanks for sharing!

    katmaz,
Thanks a lot! It's good to be here. Glad I found the forum area (better late than never!).

    Diane (beadedrose),
I see you're from Canada! I'm in Alberta! Are you on any of the yahoo bead groups?

    Carina (violetmoon),
I'll reply specifically to your post! LOL Too long to add to this monster list!

    Waleska, (wallex),
Thanks for looking. I'm very happy to be here. Everyone's very friendly!

    Hi Wendy!
Thanks for letting me know that you're also on Canadian Beaders. I'm sure there's a lot of cross-over, but until I learn new member names, I'm rather stumbling blind! You mention the bead-patterns.com contest. Are you talking about the foot fetish one? Did you introduce yourself to me at the Calgary Oasis Bead Show? LOL If so, this is a smaller world than even I imagined!

    MG (MotherGoddess),
Wow, thanks! I see you're from the Chicagoland area. Do you go to the Bristol Renaissance Faire, by any chance? Or Stronghold? I'm originally from the IL/WI border and was a regular playtron (a paying visitor who happens to dress up in garb) at Bristol. I'm working on a new gown that I hope will be ready for Halloween. I'll be giving more details in my reply to Violetmoon, so if you're interested keep reading! LOL

I don't mind you peeking at all! That's what the website is there for! Thank you for your kind comments about my jewelry.

Question 1. Do you mind if I try your design for myself but I think I will make them with wire.

The rings are one of my most popular sellers, as well as something that is easy to make for just about everyone. Best yet, once you have a few under your belt, they go together in under 10 minutes. :)

If you want the instructions, I give one construction method (I have two different ones, you see, depending on whether or not the focal bead is see through--so you can't see the wire underneath) in one of the issues of Bead Inspired Canada, a free ezine I edit and host on my site.

    http://www.elizabeadin.com/Ezine.html

I believe the Papilio Ring instructions are in Issue 3. Hmmm...maybe I should put an index on my site for the Issue contents. I can't even keep them all straight anymore!

And feel free to interpret the ring idea as you see fit! Please don't commercially mass-produce them, but for friend/family/small craft fairs...have a ball! I do use flexible beading wire in these, just in case you think they might be strung on stretch magic.

Yes, I made all the costumes myself. I was into costuming before I ever got into beading. I'm working on a new gown, heavily beaded, for halloween. It's a cross between two famous Renaissance portraits from Queen Elizabeth's time (Elizabethan England). I don't know if I'll get it done in time, what with the business and my full time job, but I started it over a year ago and want to finish it in this lifetime! LOL

I think that's why beads appeal to me. A costume, especially if it's beaded, can take so long to finish. A piece of jewelry can be created in a night. Instant gratification!

Thanks for taking a look at them and liking them!

    Thank you Tina

I already subscrided to your e-zine and downloaded the previous ones.

When I make your rings I think I make them on metal wire, they are fixed in size then.
That stretchy stuff is to much of a hassle to me. But if it doesn't work I go to the stretchy stuff. I promise I wont sell them. I only sold 3 pieces so far, mostly I give them as a gift for birthdays and so. \\

About your gowns. I'm in the goth scene, so I make my own gowns too. Not as beautiful as yours ofcourse but one can learn.

They are way to expensiv to buy.

Made my daughter a long skirt the other day, which I made one myself a few years ago. She kept nagging me for it. for
It is tight until the knees and than wide until the floor.
She calls it a "mortisha" skirt.

    Carina,

I'm sure your gowns are lovely. And don't think that I just started out making elaborate gowns! My first outfit was a "wench" outfit. Simple as pie to make, and yet I butchered it. I was blessed with a mom who knew how to sew well, though, and she'd help me out whenever I was in a bind. Her troubleshooting skills were the best thing I ever learned when it came to sewing.

And I understand what you mean. The goth style and renaissance outfits are very expensive to buy off the rack. I won't even go into the custom made stuff! That's what prompted me to start sewing my own things as well. Well, that and there never seemed to be enough purple and green combos to choose from! LOL

I like the name! Mortisha skirt! Everyone certainly knows what you mean when you say it, I'm sure. It's also known as a fishtail skirt, in case you wanted to know yet another term (that most people will know right off the bat) for it.

    Have a great day!
    Tina
